OXITEST Oxidation Stability Reactor provides fast and reliable results in oxidation stability analysis of different food formulas and identifies potential alternatives to sunflower oil for the food and feed industry.
SOFTENING THE EFFECTS OF SUPPLY CHAIN TURMOIL ON THE FOOD AND FEED INDUSTRY: VELP OXITEST APPLICATIONS FOR SUNFLOWER OIL FORMULAS
Sunflower and sunflower oil are the essential base of many food and non-food production lines. The oil is valued by the food industry, bakery sector and flours for livestock. Oleins on the other hand are essential for the industry.

The recent crisis between Russia and Ukraine is bringing tension to many industries as both countries account for 60% of the world's sunflower oil production. According to recent analysts' estimates, the continuation of the conflict could lead to a potentially drastic reduction in the quantities of raw material and consequently a dramatic increase in prices with significant impacts on the entire supply chain.

Many companies are now facing the challenge of deciding next steps including the evaluation of possible alternatives for the formulation of their products.

The oxidation of the unsaturated fatty acids is one of the most critical factors to be investigated for the shelf-life studies of oils and seeds. It leads to product deterioration, quality, and shelf-life alteration.
It is essential for R&D labs to find instruments and methods to assess the impact of oxidation stability on new formulas that will identify potential substitutes for sunflower oil.

The OXITEST Oxidation Stability Reactor is the VELP solution that enables getting high value-added information on the oxidation process of oils and fats in food samples. providing reliable and accurate results according to the AOCS Cd-12c-16 standard procedure.

The OXITEST method and Formula Comparison for reliable and accurate results

The OXITEST method and Formula Comparison for reliable and accurate results
The OXITEST reactor accelerates the oxidation process which normally lasts weeks or months. The samples are placed in two separate titanium chambers and subject to high oxidative stress at a constant temperature of 90°C/194°F and a partial oxygen pressure of 6 bar.

Oxidation resistance is indicated by the "induction period" IP, the time required to reach the oxidation starting point, corresponding to either a level of detectable rancidity or a sudden change in the rate of oxidation, due to the total amount of oxygen consumed by the product. The longer the induction period, the greater the oxidation stability over time.

The powerful VELP OXISoftTM software controls up to 4 instruments. Select the "Formula Comparison" option that enables the comparison of different formulations, discriminating the oxidation stability of the products.

OXITEST can therefore provide support in evaluating potential alternatives for sunflower oil and analyzing the consequences of these in terms of shelf life and product quality.

Thanks to the connectivity to the VELP Ermes cloud platform, the OXITEST enables the reduction of routine operations and enables you to monitor your instruments in real-time, anywhere, anytime from your PC, smartphone or tablet.
