Thanks to its high versatility, the Kjeldahl method is applied in various industries for nitrogen determination and nitrogen/protein determination: from the analysis of food, feed, beverages and agricultural products to environmental testing and water analysis, from the chemical industry to pharmaceuticals.
The Kjeldahl analysis consists of different steps: digestion, distillation and titration phases. In particular, during the digestion phase of the Kjeldahl analysis, reactions can be speeded up by high temperature and by the addition of acid, salt and catalysts (selenium, copper, mercury, titanium). In this context, the choice of a suitable catalyst is of paramount importance to obtaining accurate results.
